220kV Grid Substation Transformer Bay Expansion

Engineering Overview

As part of the national clean power transmission upgrade, WIN-TEC was awarded the complete electromechanical erection and commissioning of the 220kV Polpitiya grid substation expansion bay, incorporating two 250MVA auto-transformers and associated switchyard gantry structures.

The Challenge

Working inside an energized 220kV switchyard environment demanded zero-tolerance electrical clearance safety boundaries, live induction mitigation, and precision crane coordination near overhead high-voltage transmission conductors.

The Engineering Solution

Our chartered safety and substation engineers instituted a rigorous 3-tier permit-to-work (PTW) lock-out/tag-out system with mobile laser perimeter alarms. All heavy transformer haulage and erection was executed during planned weekend transmission outages without interrupting regional supply.
